Cooch Behar Polytechnic :
The long cherished dream of Cooch Behar came into being on August 10, 1964 when a technical institute under the aegis of the state government sponsorship and in the name of
“Cooch Behar Polytechnic” was established for imparting
Diploma Level Engineering education in three branches viz. Civil, Electrical and Mechanical. A noted
Civil Engineer, Late. M.N.Guha Niyogi was then in the chair as Principal. Jenkins School and Cooch Behar ITI provided infrastructural supports at its initial stage. Afterwards, a huge three-storeyed building (existing older part) including some other tin-roofed buildings on a sprawling area of its own on the Keshab Road and nearby the Cooch Behar Palace managed to steal the hearts of all. It came under the direct control of the Government of West Bengal in February, 1978. In course of time, the intake capacity in all branches was increased contemplating the rising demand from aspiring candidates, guardians and visionaries of Cooch Behar. Considering the socio-economic condition and changing industrial scenario world-wide, two more
Diploma Level Branches – 'Automobile Engineering' and 'Pharmacy' – were also added to its teaching process in the last decade of the last century. Today, this Polytechnic has, no doubt, ascended to a remarkable height with rich history to its credit and truly become a seat of learning in this historically renowned district. This glorious Institute boasts of its diversified services rendered for the society through numerous projects floated by the state and the central governments from time to time and always welcomes the learners for materialization of their dreams.
