The Cooch Behar NIC District Centre, ever since its inception in the
district administrative setup, has been playing a vital role in creating/promoting IT awareness/culture
within various government departments/PSUs. The Centre has successfully aided
in designing, developing and implementing various ICT projects thus supporting
e-governance to the fullest in the district. NIC has augmented the efforts in
providing ICT based services to the citizens and has emerged as a major IT
solution provider to the district administration. The Office is headed by the District
Informatics Officer (DIO) who is assisted by the Additional District Informatics
Officer (ADIO).
NIC Cooch Behar Centre facilitated collection,
compilation, dissemination and on-line accessibility of information on several
sectors of the economy at state level with the timely availability of
qualitative information at all possible levels like District, Block, Gram
Panchayat or villages. We also facilitate for the building up of databases of district-wise
importance through active co-operation of the different departments of Cooch Behar district
administration. Assuming an ever increasing importance in the national development process and computer
based information systems / databases and computer communication networks are
concerned today, and in foreseeable future, a pre-requisite for taking coherent
and balanced decisions, we are helping in the development process from the
centralised to more of decentralised approach, in order to give due recognition
to the micro-level needs and potentials in decision making.
In India, “district” is the basic administrative unit at the sub-state level and also
consistent with the decentralized planning process prevailing at the
grass-root. With the establishment of NICNET in districts, National Informatics
Centre (NIC) launched its “District Information System (DISNIC)” in sectors like
agriculture, animal husbandry, education, health, industries, rural
development, micro-level planning, etc. The DISNIC Programme was considered as
an informatics tool for development planning and responsive administration. This
Centre was established in 1989 under the
Planning Commission and in the year 2000 it came under the newly formed Ministry
of Communication & Information Technology. Need based Software Development and technical support
are the main activities of NIC,
Cooch Behar.
